Artists of every age respond to their environment. Even as I try to separate my work from the stress of daily life with news of one crises after another I find the tension of our time becoming a key component of my work. The unified picture plane perfected five- hundred years ago is segmented in the glass panels to show the multiplicity of events or the layers of reality that is apparent to each of us if we are aware and choose to pay attention. We view the over-all piece but then focus on one section at a time. A layer of glass separates the interior that holds a key figure to complete the idea. The dichotomy of life between the terrible and the beautiful presents a choice for us - I choose to call attention to options of awareness.
