Background of the Reliquary Series

William Disbro's work of the past several years has dealt almost exclusively with the themes of Elder Tales that take on the subject of what it means to be a man today. Elder Tales are stories gathered from cultures around the world from all times that have similar themes of guidance in developing wisdom and maturity as one progresses through life.

"The hunter, the shaman, and the Trickster personify a masculine fierceness that avoids warfare, honors the feminine, and recognizes the balance of nature. In an egalitarian, post-industrial age in which women insist on their rights, war means nuclear holocaust, and the continuing "conquest" of nature leads to ecological disaster, a return to the original archetype of manhood is deeply healing. Astonishing as it my seem, The Trickster offers a positive new model for men in their roles as husbands, fathers, lovers, laborers, and leaders. And the Trickster emphasizes healing instead of heroism, communication rather than conquest, and exploration over exploitation."
